Silently it flows       melding with her delicate form Then rising like a sudden whirlwind       it takes her soul leaving me only the empty shell.   As in a dream I hear myself say:       "your mom is dead" To our young sons,        newly half-orphaned,            in my numb arms.   As months stumble by,       grief becomes sin. The visit unexpected,       by a hidden door.    Shaking with fever       (the gift has been given) I fall to the floor,       quiet and still. Listen quite clearly,       the poet arises.
